THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 EDGE.
a street fashion story from VAMFF 2016.
Like most photographers I have two cameras that are used daily – my serious I’m a photographer Canon 5D Mark 3, and my can’t put it down, currently have 16,000 photo’s on it, mobile phone camera. It’s an understatement to say I take a lot of photos… and always have my phone in reach for those quick snaps, mostly for Instagram, of the wardrobe, the desk and of course the selfie!
Last week while at VAMFF, I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. After hearing wild reviews from a photographer friend that the camera was seriously next level, I was really excited to see the kind of street fashion images I could produce. I’ve never attempted to shoot street fashion on anything but my Canon before, I excitedly and nervously began to explore and shoot half of my images on my new Samsung phone.
Warning … if you read pass point I will be going through all the things I love about my new favourite camera. If you’re more into fashion then technology, feel free to skip to the beautiful people in the pictures it produces below. But know, that this is a game changer and maybe the one piece of technology you should have on you at all times this year. x
Don’t worry I’ll keep it pretty short…
The first thing I noticed was how sharp the images were. Next level was a total understatement, as I zoomed into the shots I’d just taken in low light the images were ultra sharp. At multiple times throughout the week I’d have to stop shooting on my Canon because the light was too low and then to my amazement I could continue to shoot people on my phone!
Normally shooting with a long lens you don’t get a lot of the context or background as it’s mostly blurred, but shooting with the Galaxy S7 the backgrounds complete the picture. A much wider lens meant I had to think about where I placed people more, but the results are amazing. I love how much of the Melbourne Museum precinct the below images show.
There are quite a few camera options and modes. These range from Auto, which to be honest, I shot all the below images on, due to fashion week time constraints and switching between two cameras.Pro, which I can not wait to play with this week and allows you to control everything, including exposure compensation, aperture, ISO, white balance and focal points. Selective Focus, which will allow me to create blurred backgrounds and continue shooting with my signature aesthetic … and many more. Watch out on our Instagram to see more images shot using these features.
… So in an attempt to wrap up my longest written post ever, please enjoy the images and fashion below. Thank you to all the beautiful people who didn’t laugh at me while I was taking your picture on my phone, with my other massive camera under my arm.
