STREET STYLE: MBFF BRISBANE 2017
Hi, my name is Taylor Kezia and I'm a Brisbane-based photographer shooting for Street Smith.
It’s been two years since we last saw MBFF in Brisbane, but in 2017 they came back bigger and better than ever, giving us a stellar week of shows and events.
We started the week on Monday night with the Pacific Fair Runway, a colourful display of spring fashion which included new season pieces from the likes of Aje, Dion Lee, Manning Cartell and Sandro Paris. Ruffles swayed, colours popped and embellishments dazzled under the runway lights. Scanlan Theodore presented red and pink as this season's colours, while Camilla gave us serious beach-holiday accessory envy. All the pieces were ready-to-wear and could be purchased after the show at MBFF’s new “shop the runway” pop-up.
On Tuesday I attended the Next Gen Runway which, as the name suggests, showed a series of up-and-coming designers who were the best I've seen in years... The pure talent coming from schools like QUT Fashion, Tafe QLD and the Brisbane School of Fashion is insane. Isabelle Quinn showed us that sequins are most definitely coming back (did they even leave!?), and Lydia James wowed onlookers with the stunning sheer detailing of her bridal gowns. The standout of the night was a piece by the incredible Moreno Marcos - that made the crowd gasp - with structure and attention to detail. It was so encouraging to hear (and see) how supportive the crowd was of these designers, who’ve definitely had many sleepless nights leading up to the show. Wilde Willow closed the night with her crisp, lacy pieces and a took a celebratory lap of the runway while cheers erupted from the crowd who were so proud of all the creatives that put their heart and soul into the fashion.
It is so important for MBFF to keep producing this talent-filled festival each year so the people of Brisbane can have their fashion outlet, to discover new designers, show off their personal style and support this ever-changing, amazing industry.
Throughout the Festival I was snapping street style and spotted many metallics, bold fabrics, embellishments, ruffles, pleated pieces, killer heels and stunning designer handbags.
I also asked a few guests why they get dressed. This is what they had to say…
