How do new clothes make you feel?

“It’s incredible yet so sad how one piece of clothing that you love so dearly and dream you’ll wear all the time (and perhaps you buy it in every colour available) only to find that you’ve fallen out of love with it shortly after. That ‘new clothes’ feeling can really make you feel on top of the world. One moment you have ‘nothing to wear’ then all of a sudden you have the best thing you’ve ever owned. You feel great, you want everyone to share it with you and you feel an extra few cm taller.”

“I love how a new fashion find can bring out different parts of my personality. When I put on a fresh new outfit for the first time it feels exciting and like an adventure awaits! I feel like I’m taking that piece of clothing on their first outing into the world.”

— Sarah

“My relationship with clothing is unique in that I create almost all of the pieces I own. For me there’s a direct relationship between what I wear and how I feel. Clothing is transformative; I put on a suit and feel more androgynous and powerful, I put on a satin slip gown and feel more delicate and feminine. I know how I want to look and feel for any event and then create my look around that. The ability to create and debut a new piece offers me a kind of freedom of expression to be exactly who I want to be at any given time.”

“Clothes have always been associated with size as I have been frustrated about not being dress the way I wanted to because of designers limited size ranges. This has lead to clothes have a perceived associate with value and a want to have to change myself for the clothes. However this is absolutely shifting as I get older and designers are starting to expand their size ranges in a meaningful way that grants access to how I want to be perceived in the world. I try very hard to not let clothes and their fit have value but this is a work in progress!

I know that how I dress is something that people admire in me / comment on positively which. I really fashion and clothing and how it can make me and others feel and the impact it can have on a space.

I think there is something about how you present and how this shows others that you value them. I am a high school teacher and think about how I dress for work and what impact this has on my students. Does how I present show that I am taking them seriously and think of what we do together as important?

I had a teacher at high school who was always dressed so beautifully (in contrast with some more casual work wear in the rest of the staff) and I know that this had an impact on me and my perceptions of my learning in that environment.”

“Validated, confident and powerful.”

“Confident, empowered, display of my personality, worthy, accepted in society. New clothes also make me acknowledge how privileged I am to afford them and I never take that for granted.”
